In the latest of opponent profiles, let`s take a brief look at Vale`s next opponents, Stevenage.

Last Season

Conference National Champions

Manager

Graham Westley.

A somewhat controversial figure. After purchasing a controlling interest in Farnborough Town, Westley appointed himself as manager and then attempted to merge the club with Kingstonian, only for the idea to be shelved after opposition from supporters. Westley eventually left Town, withdrawing his financial backing in the process, in a move to Stevenage. Narrowly missing out on promotion the Football League after a Play off final defeat to Carlisle at the Brittania Stadium, Westley left at the end of his contract the following season. Spells at Rushden and Diamonds and Kettering followed, before a rather surprising return to Stevenage in 2008. Westley enjoyed far greater success the second time around and despite another playoff defeat, Borough tasted glory at Wembley, beating York City to lift the FA Trophy and following that up by gaining promotion to the Football League for the first time by winning the Conference Title in style last season.

Broadhall Way (Capacity 7,100).

Player to Watch

On loan Brighton striker Chris Holroyd has made an immediate impact at the club following his arrival on a 3 month loan. The Nantwich born forward has netted six times in eleven appearances so far. Holroyd made his name at Cambridge United where his goals attracted the interest of Brighton who moved to sign him in the January transfer window.
