Striker Akpo Sodje is now ready to discuss contracts with other clubs after making a formal request for a transfer to The Vale Board.

Clearly the 27-year-old striker has now played his last game for Port Vale.

Scunthorpe Utd, Sheff Wed and an unnamed Premiership Club made approaches to The Valiants last week and bids were tabled.

Sodje joined Vale last summer on a free from Div.2 outfit Darlington where he was unable to establish himself in the first team. His first season at Vale Park brought 16 goals and The Player Of The Season award.

His aggressive style and stunningly erratic finishing has made him a firm favourite amongst The Vale faithful, and he will be sorely missed.

Manager Martin Foyle is reported to be on alert for a replacement striker, but with the transfer window closing this Friday we may have to settle for a loan signing until the January transfer window opens.

what happened there then, he was praising foyle after he scored those four in a game i think it was last season. what the bust up about ?

There’s not been any bust up, offers were made for him last week and I think the ‘formal transfer request’ is probably just procedure to allow him to spend the rest of this week talking to these clubs rather training with the squad.

gutted, my old man is a big vale fan as his grandfather was th e goalie in the 1910’s so they are my second team, and he thought with constantine and sodje they would be up there this year.
