Former Fulham, Birmingham, Sheffield Utd and WBA striker Geoff Horsfield has today been officially appointed as our new Assistant Manager/Player.
Horsfield, 35, had retired from professional football last October after discovering that he had testicular cancer, however, after making a full recovery returned to the game, albeit with Lincoln City.

This is a fantastic piece of news for Vale. Horsfield is a strong target man, and as Assistant Manager will hopefully whip Marc Richards into shape and develop our younger strikers – Steve Thompson, Danny Glover, James Lawrie and Louis Dodds.
Welcome to Vale Park Geoff!

I was worried that it had gone a bit quiet on the assistant manager front! A great appointment, Geoff will sort out the dressing room and also gives us a wealth of experience.
