Vale have named Jimmy Bell as the coach of their newly constructed development squad. Bell was assistant manager at Accrington Stanley for over a decade working alongside boss John Coleman and the 48 year old has now been tasked with coaching Vale`s youngsters.

The idea of a development squad was thought up by Chief Scout George Foster, manager Micky Adams and Chairman Norman Smurthwaite, with the aim of bridging the gap between academy and first team football. The likes of Gary O`Neil and Dominic Dell, signed from Wolves, and Cheye Alexander from West Ham, along with Vale`s first year professionals such as Tom Morris, Ryan Boot and Dougie Price will make up the squad.

Adams told the Official Site “We welcome Jimmy and I`m looking forward to working with him.

“This is a new role for the club and I`m certain that he will be relishing the chance to develop some of the young talent we have recruited in the summer.”

We wish Jimmy well in his new role.
