The Sentinel are reporting that Port Vale have approached the council for more than £300,000 in order to keep the club afloat. With the prospect of administration creeping closer, reports that the players and staff haven`t received their wages and the club owing money to practically every man and his dog, the situation is close to meltdown. Council officials are said to have discussed the matter, but given the club took out a loan worth £277,000 in December because of a cash flow shortage and have missed a number of repayments on the original £2.5 million loan, it is questionable why they would agree to such a move, especially at a time when they have announced budget cuts of up to £24 million.

The club are also expected to ask the PFA for assistance, with Gordon Taylor, its Chairman, commenting: ‘We are being kept up to date with the situation and awaiting the outcome of the council meeting, and whether or not the club will go into administration.’
