The Port Vale run in the FA Cup is over for another year after the second round defeat against Exeter at St James Park on Sunday.

Vale, as the title says, will now be ‘concentrating on the league’ following a shock (not a complete one mind) FA Cup exit against the League 2 side, who went through after a two-nil win.

Jordan Tillson had Exeter headed with Ajay Leitch-Smith denied an equaliser by the bar. As the Valiants pushed for an equaliser Ollie Watkins ran clear to make sure of the win and end the Vale FA Cup hopes for another year!

The full second round results were as follows:-

Saturday 5th December 2015
Barnet 0 – 1 Newport
Chesterfield 1 – 1 Walsall
Leyton Orient 0 – 0 Scunthorpe
Millwall 1 – 2 Wycombe
Northampton 3 – 2 Northwich Victoria
Portsmouth 1 – 0 Accrington
Sheff Utd 1 – 0 Oldham
Stourbridge 0 – 2 Eastleigh
Yeovil 1 – 0 Stevenage

Sunday 6th December 2015
Rochdale 0-1 Bury
Bradford 4-0 Chesham United
Cambridge 1-3 Doncaster
Colchester 3-2 Altrincham
Dag & Red 1-1 Whitehawk
Exeter 2-0 Port Vale
Oxford Utd 1-0 Forest Green
Peterborough 2-0 Luton
Welling 0-5 Carlisle

Monday 7th December 2015
Grimsby v Shrewsbury 19:45

Some interesting results (so far), with some upsets, but on the whole those expected to go through did go through! I would say anyway….

But the stand out results, with them causing upsets to progress, have to be the wins for Wycombe and (you have to admit it) Exeter beating League 1 opposition in the shape of Millwall and Port Vale respectively, to put them into the next round keep those cup dreams alive!

Which is also the case for Whitehawk as well after a draw with struggling Dagenham on Sunday.

Following the defeat we know our name isn’t going to be in the pot for the next round so it’ll be a case of ‘concentrating on the league!’

Vale are back in action at the weekend with a home League 1 game against Scunthorpe.
