Port Vale are now left somewhat short of ‘keepers with the second and third choices having left Vale Park for loan spells with Chris Neal, the long-term no.1, heading out to League 1 rivals Doncaster.

Jak Alnwick has been no.1 since signing after leaving Newcastle, covering initially when Neal was injured with him keeping his place since the 30-year-old returned to full fitness. A loaned to Doncaster will take him through until 1st March.

The former Shrewsbury and Preston ‘keeper has made 120 appearances for Vale but only one of them has come this season with Rob Page understanding why Neal would be frustrated with his loan best for all concerned.

He told the Official Website.

‘Chris Neal is a fantastic pro, a great lad. We’re fortunate to have two number ones at the football club, we’ve got two fantastic goalkeepers, Jak and Chris. Jak has been outstanding since he has come in so rightly so keeps the jersey. Chris is frustrated not getting minutes on the pitch. Thankfully Doncaster Rovers have come in and shown interest and it’s a great move for him.’
