The 2014/15 league 1 season moved into the second weekend with Port Vale in action again, away on this occasion.

Port Vale were in the goals again on Saturday, following up a six-two league cup win in midweek with a 3-1 win at Doncaster Rovers’ Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Fresh from a hat-trick in that win Ben Williamson (27) continued his goalscoring run when he headed home to score after Jed Steer had denied Chris Lines with an effort.

A second was added a little over five-minutes from half time when Tom Pope (39), continuing his own goalscoring run, finished via the post to double the lead.

We weren’t done though as just two-minutes later Carl Dickinson (41) lashed home following a corner with the captain adding the goal that sent un into the break three-nil up, and virtually home and dry.

Kyle Bennett (74) came off the bench to loop home a 25-yard effort with a little over 15-minutes to play, but the damage was well and truly done.

To add insult to injury Doncaster ended the game with 10-men when Harry Forrester (79) was show a red card for dangerous play when he kicked Sam Johnson in the face. Forrester had rounded the ‘keeper and was looking to score but only managed to kick Johnston in the face as he dived at his feet.

A harsh red card? Probably so but Vale already had the game in the bag really with the points secured thanks to this three-one win to round off a very good opening week to the season.
