Events at Vale Park became even more farcical following the news that the club`s friendly games with Tranmere Rovers and Coventry City will be held behind closed doors. The club have been unable to secure a safety certificate, which has delayed ‘essential maintenance work`. Matters are fast becoming embarrassing, if they weren`t already. With the new season nearly upon us, season tickets still haven`t been issued; sponsorship and commercial activity appears to be non-existent, and there appears to be no one actually running the club on a day to basis. Meanwhile, supporters are expected to twiddle their thumbs while Keith Ryder attempts to conclude his takeover of the club. Pete Williams, Chairman of the Port Vale Supporters Club, reacted with anger to the news. “This announcement today is a sad indictment of those currently in charge at Port Vale who frankly we wouldn`t trust to run a bath.

“We believe there needs to be a clear-out of the dead wood who allowed this situation to arise.

“We will be contacting the administrators today to offer our help to try to solve this problem.”

There must now be some doubt as to whether the Valiants can even fulfil their opening fixture of the season at home to Burnley on August 14th.
