‘I Am Running A Football Club, Not A Fat Club’

Manager Micky Adams was less than impressed with the condition of trialist Kevin Thornton on Saturday, although the midfielder could still be in line for a contract.

The 23-year-old midfielder scored the winner in the 1-0 victory at Stafford Rangers on Saturday, and reports from the game suggest that Thornton had a good game, however, this is what Adams had to say to The Sentinel:

‘You have seen what I have seen, and he’s not fit. He has to look at himself and the condition he’s turned up in at this football club for a trial. I am running a football club, not a fat club.’

Thornton has found himself in a bit of mither recently. In June he received a 22 month ban for drink driving, and was subsequently released from his contract at Coventry City. Thornton is quoted by The Sentinel with this predictable sentence:

‘There’s no one else to blame. I know I’ve made mistakes, but it is time to grow up, kick on, and have a fresh start.

What’s your opinion on Thornton, is he worth bringing to Vale Park?
