Port Vale have allowed ‘keeper Sam Johnson to go out on loan for a short spell with Alfreton Town.

With Chris Neal the undoubted no.1 at Vale Park at the moment Rob Page felt it would be better for Johnston to go out on loan with the non-league side to get a months worth of first team football.

Page told the official website: ‘He has shown myself that he is capable of playing League One or League Two football but at this moment in time Chris Neal is the number one.

‘It’s a great opportunity for him to go out and play games and we’ll reap the reward later on in his development.’

Johnson, who has come through the academy, has made six first-team appearances for us so far this season but will definitely benefit from this spell away.

The 21-year-old memorably made his debut in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy against Walsall back in October 2012, he was the goalscorer of the winning penalty in the penalty shootout win that evening!
