Port Vale’s League 1 season continued with a defeat against Wigan at the DW Stadium on Saturday.

The Vale play-off hopes suffered a blow when Wigan ran out comfortable three-nil winners in the end, making the most of playing against 10-men for an hour when Ryan McGivern was sent-off.

An early Richard Duffy own goal had Wigan ahead with the chance to double the lead coming when McGivern fouled Will Grigg, with him also sent off. Grigg scored the resulting penalty and added his second to complete the win midway through the second half.

The above video shows the highlights from this game.

These were the other results.

Saturday 30th January 2016
Blackpool 1-0 Gillingham
Bradford 2-1 Fleetwood
Coventry 1-2 Scunthorpe
Millwall 1-1 Crewe
Rochdale 2-1 Burton
Swindon 0-1 Barnsley
Wigan 3-0 Port Vale

Looking at these results the stand out ones have to be the wins for Blackpool (one-nil), Scunthorpe (two-one) and Rochdale (two-one).

Not too many of the sides towards the top end of the table, Wigan aside, secured wins with Gillingham missing the chance to go top with a surprise defeat at Blackpool with them winning one-nil at Bloomfield Road.

Coventry’s own promotion hopes were dealt another blow with a surprise two-one defeat suffered by the Sky Blues at the Ricoh Arena with managerless Scunthorpe winning again.

Despite suffering another defeat, a two-one setback at Rochdale the lead was retained by Burton but they missed a chance to extend this lead when suffering this surprise defeat at Spotland.
