Lowndes has eye surgery

Striker Nathan Lowndes has told The Sentinel that he hopes to be available to play in the Blackpool game on Saturday despite having eye surgery after a collision with Donovan Ricketts in Saturdays game against Bradford.

Lowndes told The Sentinel: ‘There is still alot of swelling around my eye and my vision is still a bit blurry, but hopefully that will be sorted out.’

The 29-year-old striker has had a bad time with injuries over the past twelve months, and has missed virtually all of this season with a back injury. Saturdays game against Bradford was just Nathan’s second league appearance this season – and lasted for just twelve minutes!

Lowndes went on to say: ‘Hopefully all my bad luck is out of the way… so far this season has been a washout, so i’m eager to get it going.’

Lowndes will return to hospital on Thursday to have his stitches removed.

Lowndes certainly could use a change of fortune. Alot of fans at Vale Park have written of this guy, and i feel the same. Along with fellow striker Michael Husbands Lowndes seems a bit lightweight for this league – and the constant problems with injuries don’t inspire to much confidence. Lowndes is one of several players I expect to see leave when the season is over.
