A lead was taken, but couldn’t be held as Port Vale had to be content with a point on Tuesday night.

Port Vale have started the league 1 season in very good form but the points had to be shared with Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park on Tuesday in a 1-1 draw.

Tom Pope (8) has started this season in the kind of goalscoring form that he’s shown over the years as he headed home his fifth goal of the campaign already from his strike partner Ben Williamson’s cross early on.

One-nil is how the half would end but Oldham kept pressing and James Wilson (64) headed home a Mike Jones corner to level it up just past the hour.

The bar saved Oldham, and denied us, as Chris Lines threatened a winner with his header before we have our ‘keeper Sam Johnson to thank for turning Danny Philliskirk’s header over the bar as the points were shared.
