Pope Speculation Continues

The Peterborough Telegraph are among those linking the Championship club with a move for Vale striker Tom Pope. Several sources in Cambridgeshire have suggested that the Posh are set to bid £60,000 for the Valiants 27 goal top scorer, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

This particular rumour has been doing the rounds for several weeks. Indeed, we reported Peterborough`s ‘interest` here before New Year; however, it is believed that no formal bid has been made, or is even set to be made. Given the impressive start messers Wildes and Smurthwaite have made since completing their takeover over the club, they would quite frankly have to be mad to sell Pope for such a paltry fee. Vale would no doubt lose out on more than that by failing to clinch promotion to League One this season.

Given that Pope has repeated his desire to stay with his boyhood club, the safe money remains that he will still be a Vale player come the end of the transfer window.
