Vale Boss Martin Foyle has told The Sentinel that any club interested in buying Leon Constantine should ‘put up or shut up’.

‘I hear rumours that people are doing this or that, but I think they have to put up or shut up.’

‘People are trying to test us to see whether we are hard up. They know we have been a selling club over the last three years, so they probably think we are easy pickings.’

‘Until it is a fax or phone call, or is definite, then I am not going to get excited.’

Another issue here is that Vale can not afford to bring in any more players until they have offloaded one or two due to the wage bill.

Foyle has admitted he would be interested in Crewe striker Luke Rodgers, and although Vale would have no problem in meeting the £30,000 price tag the club would not be in a position to pay him any wages!

Unfortunately for Vale Constantine is our only player currently of any interest to other clubs. Alot of us would be happy to see Michael Husbands and Nathan Lowndes make way so we could bring in another striker, but who would want them?

Another case in point is Leyton Orient defender Clayton Fortune. After another successful loan spell with The Vale Fortune was keen to come to Vale Park permanently, Vale wanted him here permanently – but the wages issue threw a spanner in the works.

The Ross gardner deal was made possible by a settlement with the player from his then club Nottingham Forest.

The bottom line appears to be that, unless we sell Constantine there will be no more activity for us in the January transfer market.
