Sonner turns down new offer

35-year-old midfielder Danny Sonner has turned down the twelve month deal offered to him by Vale, and may be considering a better deal at Walsall.

Sonner has claimed that he would love to stay at Vale Park, but would want a bigger wage. According to the midfield playmaker Vale have ‘had him on the cheap’ this season.

Chairman Bill Bratt has told ‘The Sentinel’ that: ‘We have offered Danny an improved contract. He says he wants to stay, so now it is up to him.’

This would be a big loss for Vale in my opinion. Sonner is the only creative player we currently have in the midfield, and we are a poorer side when he is absent. Vale will definitely need to bring in a creative midfielder if Sonner does leave.

From the club’s point of view they may be concerned with the time it has taken Danny to recover from injuries. Sonner missed all of January and then April through injuries, and at 35 years of age recovery time is not going to get any quicker.

Sonner is currently on holiday, and declined to make any comment to ‘The Sentinel’.
