New signing Sam Stockley has staked his claim for the Captain’s armband.

The 30-year-old defender has said this to The Sentinel

‘If there was an opportunity to become Captain I would love to do it, but that decision is down to the Gaffer. I’ve been a Captain before at different stages with Colchester and Wycombe and it would be an honour if I became Captain here…I am always vocal and organising people around me.’

With the young squad Lee Sinnott is currently assembling Stockley sticks out as a potential Captain, with possibly striker Marc Richards as a potential candidate.

Sinnott told The Sentinel that he see’s potentially ’20 Captains in our squad’, which is clearly nonsense.

Elsewhere Danny Whitaker has until tomorrow (Tuesday 17th) to decide whether he will accept the contract offered by Vale, and as there has been no reported interest from anyone else it looks as though the midfielder may have to take us up on the improved deal.

He’s obviosly prepared to stand up and be counted which is exactly the sort of player we need. Make him captain.
