The former Vale keeper Stuart Tomlinson has sealed a four month deal with League Two rivals Burton Albion. Tomlinson rejected the offer of a new deal at Vale Park believing he would secure himself a better deal elsewhere. However, following a brief trial with Preston North End, Tomlinson had failed to find a club. Having been an impressive first choice following Micky Adams` arrival at Vale Park, Tomlinson`s form dipped, like many, following the arrival of Jim Gannon. Last season, Tomlinson shared goalkeeping duties with Chris Martin, without fully recapturing his best form. He told the official Burton website: “It`s been tricky over the summer. Obviously leaving Port Vale was a decision I made mainly to do with them being in administration. I ended up going on trial at Preston and playing a game for them. I did alright but now I`m looking forward to doing well for Burton.

“If I can impress the lads and impress the manager then maybe we can work something out (long term) but it`s a long time until Christmas so I won`t count my chickens.”
