Port Vale’s League 1 season continued with a win against Wigan at Vale Park on Saturday.

It looked like Port Vale had thrown away the points when a two-goal lead was lost but a last gasp winner meant that Vale saw off former Premier League side Wigan three-two at the weekend.

Grant (34) belted Port Vale into the lead and when Dodds (64) made it two just past the hour the Valiants were looking good for all three-points.

That was until McCann (66) instantly got Wigan back into the game with Barnett (83) looking as though his header had earned Wigan a point but when Barnett was then sent of with a couple of minutes to play the Latics ended with 10-men, with Watford loanee Ikpeazu (90) winning it at the death!

These were the match highlights.

You can see more like this on Port Vale FC.

The other results at the weekend were as follows:-

Saturday 12th September
Barnsley 4-1 Swindon
Burton 1-0 Rochdale
Chesterfield 3-3 Colchester
Crewe 1-3 Millwall
Fleetwood 1-1 Bradford
Gillingham 2-1 Blackpool
Oldham 1-5 Peterborough
Port Vale 3-2 Wigan
Scunthorpe 1-0 Coventry
Sheff Utd 1-3 Bury
Southend 0-1 Shrewsbury
Walsall 2-0 Doncaster

Looking at these results the stand out ones have to be the wins for Barnsley, Peterborough and Bury!

Barnsley, having lost the previous two in League 1, reacted to falling behind to Swindon, who had been unbeaten, by storming back to win at Oakwell in the end. A win would have been a good result as it was but to win four-one makes it an even better result.

Having sacked boss Robertson before the game Peterborough, as so often happens, reacted to thrash Oldham five-one at Boundary Park….a result that cost Oldham boss Kelly his job with him sacked after the defeat!

The result of the weekend, which could be argued I suppose, has to be the win Bury had at Bramall Lane against the form side in League 1 Sheffield United. The win was made all the more impressive with this coming as the Shakers as the visitors to the Blades.

Vale are back in action this midweek with a rearranged League 1 game against Millwall at Vale Park on Tuesday.
