Vale Set For Admin

Sadly, the inevitable looks to have happened. News that Vale`s largest creditor, the city council, are to place the club into administration marks the beginning of a frightening period for the Vale. Administration should only have been seen as last resort, despite it bringing about the end of the most unedifying and monumentally unsuccessful reign in the club`s history.

The bald facts will see the Valiants hit with a 10 point (at least) points deduction, which effectively ends any promotion bid. The potential loss of jobs for players and staff is a major worry, as is the loss of money by the small shareholders and creditors – many of whom are local, community based businesses. It is only necessary to look at the recent example of Darlington to see the havoc caused by such an outcome.

I`m certain many will share my anger this morning that the situation has reached this point. Those in charge have had countless opportunities to provide a remedy. Now is not the time for recriminations. Hopefully those responsible for this mess will be held personally and financially responsible. Now is the time to support our club. It is fitting that Vale travel to Accrington Stanley tomorrow, themselves a club who have faced financial trouble over recent years. They are also another example of a ‘smaller` club who manage to survive on far fewer resources than the Vale. Micky Adams` side will no doubt be roared on by a large and passionate following. Tomorrow is the day when we reclaim our club.

Up the Vale.
