Port Vale have reported that they have rejected a bid for striker Akpo Sodje from an unnamed Premiership club.

Its also believed that Championship teams Sheff Wednesday and Scunthorpe Utd are interested in the 27-year-old striker.

So who are the Premiership club who have made an offer? The mind boggles at the news. Although i’m a bid fan of Sodje he is certainly not Premiership standard. A move to the Premiership for Akpo will almost guarantee little first team football for the striker, and I don’t see his often clumsy and awkward style impressing fans.

The probable bids that we will receive from Sheff Wednesday and Scunthorpe however should be taken seriously. The Owls have made a worse start than us to their season, and they were certainly impressed with Akpo when we played them in pre-season.

Scunthorpe have made a decent enough start to life in the Championship, currently sitting in tenth spot and would certainly be a good move for Akpo.

Sodje came to Vale Park last summer on a free after failing to cement a first team place at Div.2 side Darlington. Akpo make an immediate impact with the fans with his powerful displays and 100% commitment to the cause. His partnership with Leon Constantine (another Div.2 struggler before Foyle came after him) last season realised 42 goals, Sodje contributing 16 of those.

Of course Akpo is not the complete package. His finishing is ludicrous at times, and when things are not going for him (as they haven’t so far this season) he can look a poor player.

  • Looks like he’ll be gone then. Great personality to have in the team, and always gives it everything. I’ll miss him.

  • GOOD PLAYER BUT I DON’T SEE HIM MAKING A BIG IMPRESSION AT A HIGHER LEVEL. WE SHOULD HOLD OUT FOR AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE WE NEED TO BRING IN SOME NEW BLOOD.

  • I’m an Owl and I was quite happy at this idea, but we do seem to have numerous strikers with poor finishing. Is his finishing really that bad, he did get 16 goals?
