Jak Alnwick’s arrival earlier in the season was something of a surprise, perhaps more so the fact the former Newcastle ‘keeper then signed a deal to keep him with Port Vale until the summer of 2018.

The contract Alnwick is under does leave Vale in a strong position, in light of reported interest in him, but you tend to think he signed he two-and-a-half-year contract he did with this coming with some sort of ‘agreement’ of him being able to move on should higher league clubs show an interest?

Alnwick’s been in fine form for Vale this season, which wouldn’t make it surprising others are looking on with the Sentinel reporting claims from HITC Sport that both League 1 rivals Wigan and Championship side Preston have shown an interest in the 22-year-old.

Rob Page isn’t likely to be that keen on losing Alnwick but if that should happen he’s got a fully fit Chris Neal to call upon again if this did happen so there’s a more than able replacement waiting in the wings, a ‘keeper many clubs would be more than happy to have as no.1 as it is.
