The official Barnsley site have announced today that Leon Constantine will let the club know before the weekend whether he will agree to join the club!

So, it looks like we may have to wait until Thursday before we are finally put out of our misery. Is it possible Leon may say “no” to the offer from Barnsley?

It has been reported in ‘The Sentinel’ today that Barnsley will give Vale £125,000 plus striker Marc Richards in exchange for Leon Constantine.

Vale Chairman Bill Bratt explained to ‘The Sentinel’ that Manager Martin Foyle will be given a good chunk of the fee to spend.

It looks like £30,000 of that money will bring in striker Luke Rodgers from Crewe Alex – although the player is also wanted by Leyton Orient. Maybe the fact that he won’t have to move house if he joins Vale will become a major factor!

Bratt went on to say about the Constantine-Richards deal, ‘I think the deal we have done for Leon is good business.’

‘Marc Richards has proved he can score goals, and bringing him and Luke Rodgers in will help us build for next season and still give us a chance of the Play-offs this season. We have agreed the deal in the best interests of Port Vale.’

The transfer of the two players still depends on them passing their respective medicals, and agreeing personal terms.

Richards, 24 (pictured above), started out at Blackburn Rovers before loan spells with Crewe Alex, Halifax Town and Swansea City. Richards then joined Northampton Town in 2003 for a successful spell before joining Barnsley in August 2005.

£250k and not a penny less Bratt was saying last week. It depends on how Richards plays really, then we’ll see whether its a good bit of business or not.

RE: Tuesday update: maybe, just maybe Leon doesn’t want to go. Barnsley are struggling – could well be in Div.1 next season. I would love it if he chooses to stay at Vale!

Sort it out! If Leon doesn’t go to Barnsley then he still won’t be playing on Saturday, he’ll be looking at other Championship clubs. I just want this over and done with, with Richards playing on Saturday!
