Midfielder Danny Whitaker has told ‘The Sentinel’ that the team is aiming to finish in the top ten this season.

The ex-Macclesfield Town player, who has been the subject of much criticism and ridicule throughout the season, has – in the last few games – managed to gain some respect from Vale fans with some ok (nothing more) performances and a couple of goals.

Whitaker: ‘The teams above us all have to play each other, so who knows where we could finish up?’

‘It is definitely realistic. In the last few weeks we have been playing some great football, so hopefully we can continue that and pick up wins.’

‘We have to get some points on the road. I can’t remember the last time we won away, but hopefully we can start doing so again at Rotherham United on Saturday.’

Whitaker has also spoke about his own personal target of reaching ten goals for the season…

‘My best return is 15 goals at Macclesfield a few seasons ago, but I think thats out of reach.’

‘I should have scored a few more than I have really, but I always try to get to double figures, and I think that is still realistic.’
