End Of The Line For Steve Thompson

Young striker Steve Thompson has had his contract ended by ‘mutual consent’ by the Club

The 20-year-old joined us from Middlesborough prior to the beginning of last season, but has not had a happy time with Vale, suffering hamstring injuries throughout the last campaign. He also looked like he was carrying some excessive weight.

Shortly before the beginning of this season Thompson was one of six players transfer-listed by Micky Adams. Thompson eventually got himself a short term loan deal at Stafford Rangers, but with no prospect of first team football under Adams the decision to permanently break away from the club is the right one.

Adams has immediately brought in striker Jamie Guy on a three month loan, and indeed Guy made the subs bench for last nights victory over Stockport in The Paint Pot Cup.

Guy, 22, is currently with Colchester Utd and was a pre-season target for Adams, playing a couple of pre-season friendlies for us, however, after picking up an injury the proposed loan deal naturally fell through.

Like Lewis Haldane Guy is a big fella who doesn’t have a prolific goal scoring record (poor is closer to the truth), and has spent much of his career loaned out to non-league clubs, but clearly Adams see’s something in him.
