Former Vale boss Martin Foyle has today left his position at York City. The 47 year old who served the Valiants with distinction in his time at Vale as player, coach and manager is believed to have resigned following York`s 5-0 defeat at Mansfield on Tuesday night. Foyle released a statement on the York Official Site

‘I would like to thank Jason McGill and his family for giving me the opportunity to manage York City Football Club. They have been fantastic with me from day one and have been very supportive. We have had an excellent working relationship. Andy Porter and I have lived up here in York six nights a week and worked tirelessly to change the fortunes of the club to get it back to its position of challenging at the top of the league. We have certainly achieved this. We have also reached the Promotion Play-Off Final and been to Wembley twice and these have been very proud moments in my career. We also reached the 3rd Round of the FA Cup and played against Premiership opposition. The club record of 10 consecutive wins was also a fantastic achievement for all my players. With the money from the cup runs, Wembley visits and the sale of Richard Brodie I know I leave the club in a much healthier position than when I arrived 20 months ago.`

York are expected to issue a further statement next week, but the news is something of a surprise after Foyle guided the Minstermen to the Conference Play off final last season, whilst also enjoying a profitable FA Cup run, losing to Stoke in the third round of the competition. Last season`s top scorer Richard Brodie departed in a £275,000 deal to Crawley Town recently, which also hit York`s hopes of going one better this time round. Former Vale midfielder Andy Porter is set to take charge of York`s game with Tamworth this weekend.
