Vale boss Jim Gannon has denied earlier reports that Gary Roberts had been granted permission to leave the club on loan. BBC Radio Stoke reported that the midfielder was set to exit the club, with Sheffield United and Bristol Rovers interested in taking the former Crewe and Rotherham man on a short term basis.

However, Gannon has denied that Roberts, or any other player, will be leaving the club. Speaking to the Official Site the Vale boss stated: ‘We have not had a conversation about Gary leaving the club on loan and we will not be having a conversation. Gary has been, and continues to be, a very important member of the squad.

‘At no time have I given him permission to join another football club on loan. Any reports to the contrary are simply inaccurate’.

In fact, Gannon confirmed that he is in the process of trying to bring in additional bodies to strengthen Vale`s squad ahead of a crucial run of fixtures.
