The Valiants are among a host of clubs believed to be chasing the signature of midfielder Chris Lines. The 27 year old was released from his contract at Sheffield Wednesday yesterday and reports in South Yorkshire suggest that Vale are possibly favourites to sign the former Bristol Rovers man.

Bradford City and MK Dons, where Lines spent part of last season on loan, are also believed to be interested. Lines was a key component of Wednesday`s promotion winning side from League One where he formed an effective partnership with Jose Semedo. However, an ankle injury suffered during pre-season last year kept him out of the side and he struggled to win a place under boss Dave Jones.

The sort of player we need imo. Formed a good partnership with Semedo in L1, he’s would be an ideal combo, if unlikely.
