Interim manager Rob Page has praised the boys following the win over Leyton Orient for their game management and their patience in waiting for the opportunities to win the game to present themselves.

Following the sending off of Ian Henderson for Orient, Vale struck three times in the second half with goals in quick succession from Adam Yates and Ben Williamson before a Nathan Clarke deflection completed the scoring by taking the ball past his own goalkeeper.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, Page was delighted with the performance and even more pleased to see us keep our first clean sheet of the season.

‘Not only have we scored three goals but we’ve kept a clean sheet as well which is nice. From front to back I thought we were well organised, defended really well and some of our forward play – we had to be patient in the build up and we got the three points we deserved.’

Following the disappointing showing against Scunthorpe where the gaffer wasn’t pleased with the overall performance, he admitted he asked the players for a response and on that score he was delighted with the reaction they gave him as well.

‘We had set high standards at home and I wasn’t happy when those standards dropped on Tuesday, that was far more like it and hopefully we can push on from here.’

With chairman Norman Smurthwaite speaking to the press before the game himself and admitting that he would look to make a managerial appointment next week, Page has again done himself no harm following this result as his record now stands at three wins, three defeats and two draws since he replaced former manager Micky Adams in September following his resignation.
