Lets spare a thought for ex-Vale Keeper Jonny Brain who is having an absolute nightmare at the moment with Macclesfield Town.
Yesterday morning he was roundly lampooned on Soccer AM for his clown-like attempt to collect a mis-hit shot which ened up in the back of the net against Acc Stan last week, then in the afternoon he conceded SIX at Moss Rose as Darlington (who had only scored twice in their previous three league games) ran riot.
Macclesfield look doomed already. Played four, lost four, no goals scored, fourteen goals conceded. Definitely relegation fodder.
Another Ex-vale Keeper we shall be meeting again this season is Kevin Pilkington, currently at Notts County. Like Brain, Pilkington was suspect to say the least – following a great Vale tradition for goalkeeping buffoonery. John Connaughton, Steve Cherry, Dean Delaney anyone?
Even legends like Paul Musselwhite and Mark Grew had there moments of hapless idiocy.
Maybe we’ve been spoilt a bit goalkeeping wise lately with the magnificent Mark Goodlad followed by the potentially very good Joe Anyon, lets remember we’ve had a lot worse than Joe between the sticks in recent memory…
