The Port Vale squad returned to work this morning for pre-season training to discover the Westport Lake taining ground flooded.

It is unlikely that any football will be possible at the training ground for another week.

Manager Martin Foyle is currently looking at alternative facilities for training, and has told ‘The Sentinel’, ‘I’ve never known it this bad. We would have gone straight back to using footballs in training, but the pitches are unplayable.’ The Westport Lake pitches are apparently ankle deep!

What is surprising is that the club were not aware of the situation before today. With all recent rain we’ve had this is obviously not just happened overnight. Had it really not occured to anyone that maybe the training ground would need to be looked at before today?

The Vale players will be working in the gym until a playable training pitch is identified.
