Micky Adams has further added to the squad with the signing of Sheffield Wednesday left back Daniel Jones. After Watford defender Carl Dickinson distanced himself from a move to the Potteries, the Vale boss wasted little time in moving for the former Wolverhampton Wanderers player instead.

It is Vale`s fourth signing of the transfer window, following the arrivals of Darren Purse, Lee Hughes and Chris Birchall. It certainly is a statement of intent from new Chairman Paul Wildes, who looks to be backing up his promise to give Adams the tools to secure promotion to League One. Indeed, the club may not be finished in the January window just yet.

The 26 year old was released by the Owls yesterday having made over 50 appearances for the Yorkshire club. The Dudley born defender looks set to fill what has been something of a problematic position for the Valiants over recent months, with both Doug Loft and Adam Yates both filling in out of position. Jones, who can also operate on the wing, will go straight into the squad for Saturday`s game with Bradford City (weather permitting).
