We’re Not Naughty Any More…

Members of the infamous Stoke City hooligan firm the ‘Naughty Forty’ have launched an initiative that will attempt to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour amongst 16 – 20 year olds.

‘Project Freekick’ consists of talks and DVD’s that will be delivered to teenagers by former members of the Naughty Forty with the objective of preventing youths who have become involved with crime from becoming immersed in the gang culture that has become a major epidemic across Britain. Both Vale and Stoke have endorsed the project, which delivered its first presentation last Saturday in Hanley at an Attendence Centre.

‘Project Freekick’ is hoping that other Football Clubs up-and-down the country will jump aboard.

Former Naughty Forty member and Author Mark Chester told this to The Sentinel:

‘There are five of us working on this project. Between us we’ve got 160 years of experience of gang culture…The project is all about tackling anti-social behaviour, gang culture and things like knife crime.’

Undoubtedly readers of the Daily Mail will sink into a deep, simmering rage at the thought of football hooligans attempting to avert teenagers from a life of crime, thuggery and untold skullduggery. Birch ’em. Bring back National Service. You can hear it now.

Personally I like the idea. If you are going to deliver the message about the perils of gang culture, and gun & knife crime who do you want to do it? Some educated middle-class busybodies who haven’t a clue about the realities of crime in this country, or a bunch of blokes who’ve been there and done it?

Its a no-brainer as far as I’m concerned.

Mark Chester is the author of two books; Naughty and Sex, Drugs And Football Thugs. It does slighty grieve me to say it as a life long Vale Fan, but both are well worth a read.
