What’s Up With Shrewsbury Fans?

Shrewsbury Town 0-1 Port Vale

For the second successive season I have been truly appalled by the behaviour of a small section of Shrewsbury fans at The Prostar Stadium.

We all know the ones I’m on about. They sit just to the right of the ‘away’ end. Goodness me, what an ill-tempered rabble of confused freaks these people are! Their reaction to the good natured celebrations of the Vale faithful was, once again, frankly disgusting. John McCombe’s goal on the stroke of half-time was met with a stream of venom, bile, meat pies and plastic bottles. All aimed towards us Vale fans. Stewards struggled to contain this irate horde as they made a futile attempt to hurdle the advertising boards and engage in confrontation.

The full-time whistle provoked more of the same, stewards and police kept busy by the rabid natives, who clearly took offence at the gentle teasing politely served up by some of the Vale faithful. ‘Perspective’ is patently a word that our salopian friends have no understanding of.

It didn’t get any better outside the ground. The police had little option but to escort a small group of us back to the station, even sorting us out a coach after walking us half way back. As one Officer of the law put it ‘We are saving you from getting a clattering in town.’ Naturally I was shocked! I’d always understood the people of Shropshire to be gentle, simple folk, whose only misdemeanour is an over-fondness for the livestock they tend. I’m obviously a little naive. With the coach winding it’s way through the streets of Shrewsbury we were subjected to the peculiar sight of alarmingly odd-looking people staring and pointing at us, like some nightmarish urban version of ‘The Hills Have Eyes’. A chilling experience.

It kind of worked both ways didnt it? You also brought some pretty rank little chavs with you to gode the local chavs. The goal celebration went over the top and so did the home fans. But at the end, did you not witness the Vale fans throwing rocks and coins over the fence and hitting women on the head with them?? That is the main reason why you had to be escorted to the station.

Adam you need to get your facts right before you write , the vale fans were hemed in by the police because the shrews chavs were throwing bricks coins the lot, so to put the blame on vale well m8 your in the wrong to do so, one of my m8s was hit in the head with a brick and he had his son with him did he do something wrong no he did`nt , your chavs showed what they were last season at vale park, and if they want to fight the vale chavs then let them organise something to kick ***** out of each other somewhere out of the way and leave everyone else out of it.

  • Adam Calverley says:

As I said above it did work both ways. Both sets of fans were out of order and I wasnt putting all the blame on the vale fans. Quite a few town fans acted like idiots and that is a fact but so did SOME vale fans, not all. The thing with town and most probably vale fans is that they wouldnt actually kick the hell out of each other but they got rowdy and tried to look hard in front of their mates because the fence was dividing them. So, I wasnt actually blaming alll the trouble on vale, mate.

and dunnypvfc, i have just read another comment f yours saying you werent actually at the game. So how do you know I didnt have my facts right? I was there, I witnessed it. So i guess i am in a better position to comment on what happened without relying on hearsay.

  • dunnypvfc says:

Adam i trust what my mates have told me on how the fans behaved, and i saw another m8s head after the brick throwing incident and to say he was`nt telling the truth would be obserd m8. To say your in a better position could be a byased opinion and saw the police herding the vale fans back in the ground , then the police put them on buses so they avoided the town centre because of the shrews chavs did you see this probably not.

  • Adam Calverley says:

Brilliant. You dont seem to be reading what I am writing. I admit there were some ‘absurd’ moments from the shrewsbury chavs, which as i said before is something that can not be defended. I would trust your mates might be ‘biased’ themselves. I was there and what I keep repeating to you is that BOTH (that is Shrewsbury and Port Vale fans) were in the wrong in SOME places. The police did that because things got out of hand and SOME Shrews chavs had clashed with SOME vale chavs. yes? I did see this and I did see SOME shrewsbury chavs throw stones at these buses. So i guess i probably was in a better position without being ‘biased’.
