Adams Shows Little Faith In Chris Martin

Micky Adams is routing through the bargain bins looking for an experienced Keeper, and Stuart Tomlinson – ex Crewe – is looking favourite. Adams believes that Joe Anyon will not be ready for the new season after breaking his leg at Chesterfield in March.

Tomlinson (pictured above) was released by Crewe at the end of last season, and appeared for Vale in the second half of the 3-0 victory at ‘Castle Town on Saturday, although Adams admits that Tomlinson had nothing to do during his 45 minutes.

Speaking to The Sentinel Adams had this to say:

‘He didn’t have a shot to save and kicked it okay, but I can’t really judge him on that…hopefully he will be in training this week and we can monitor the situation.’

18-year-old Chris Martin, who deputised for Anyon at the back end of last season, may feel a little aggrieved with the situation. Despite suffering a baptism of fire during the 07-08 season when he conceded six goals at Swindon on debut Martin was impressive when he had his chance last season, and many – me included – felt that he was a better keeper than Anyon. I fully expected him to start the new season as no.1, but clearly Adams has other idea’s.

Given that we have three keepers already in the squad – Anyon, Martin and 17-year-old Daniel Lloyd-Weston, and given the fact that we lack quality in other area’s, the pursuit of another Goalkeeper is surely a questionable decision from the new Manager.

I’m surprised that Micky is after a keeper. I think we have plenty of talent already in that department, a proper winger is what we need right now.

We don’t need another goalie especially not a crewe reject.

shame really but you can see where he is coming from , you cant rely on teenagers to do an experienced job , i`d like tomo in goal looked very positive safe hands as well , but again were told there`s no money to spend on players why have them on loan?.
