Chris Birchall helped Trinidad and Tobago to qualify for the World Cup finals and Vale Chairman Bill Bratt is as pleased as punch!

The 21-year-old midfielder will be the first Port Vale player to appear in the World Cup finals and despite the fact the player only managed 20 minutes before limping off with an ankle injury in the second leg qualifier, Bratt has heaped praise on the player.

‘Chris is a brilliant lad and everyone at Port Vale is extremely proud of him. It’s a massive achievement and he’s the first home-grown Vale player to play in a World Cup finals. Chris’ achievements with Trinidad & Tobago have raised the profile of the club and undoubtedly made him a better and more confident player – long may it continue.’
