Despite his claims that the matter would be dealt with ‘professionally and internally`, Vale boss Jim Gannon has fanned the flames of last week`s bust up with assistant Geoff Horsfield by saying he will not be meeting the Vale board.

A statement issued by the club said that both Gannon and Horsfield had sought legal advice and would be meeting the Vale board this week. However, Gannon has claimed that he is the innocent party in the affair and that disciplinary action will be taken against Horsfield only. He told the The Sentinel There’s been misrepresentation in the media over my part in this. I’m completely the innocent party.

I don’t need to have a meeting with the board regarding this matter, all I will provide is a witness statement.

‘I came back to the club on Friday and held good talks with the chairman regarding the situation and the issues leading up to it.

‘Now it’s in the club’s hands to make sure procedures are correctly followed, and once it’s all clarified, to make a strong statement which shows good leadership.’

From the outside it seems as if the Vale boss is playing a dangerous political game. Quite how there has been a misrepresentation by the media when an official statement was released by the club that suggested Gannon had a case to answer at the very least. Gannon may be expecting a little too much if he`s waiting for the club to make a strong statement, showing good leadership!

Meanwhile, Vale`s reserve side were hammered 6-2 Bradford last night. Louis Dodds put forward his case for a recall to the first team by scoring both of Vale`s goals in the rout.
