Keith Downing, former Manager of Cheltenham Town, has been announced as Assistant Manager to Dean Glover and will take up his post on Monday 2nd March.

The appointment spells the end for Coach Ian Brightwell, who was brought in when Dean Glover was appointed Manager and decided that Andy Porter was not fit to be Assistant Manager. Brightwell leaves Vale Park on Saturday, although whether that is before or after the game against Luton is not yet confirmed. Maybe we’ll see him at the 2pm protest!

Downing left Cheltenham back in September (obviously he wasn’t sacked, he left by ‘mutual consent’) as they wallowed at the bottom of League 1. During his time at Cheltenham Downing won just 14 of the 49 games he resided over.
