Port Vale were always in for a difficult afternoon on Saturday afternoon against the league 1 leaders, so it wasn’t too much of a surprise that we went home with a defeat.

The start, well revival really after a slow start to the season, that Peterborough United have made saw them go into this game sitting top of the league 1 table and Darren Ferguson celebrating the winning of the Manager of the Month for August.

Come fulltime at London Road on Saturday they remained at the summit having won 3-1.

Peterborough almost went ahead early on through Conor Washington but Chris Neal saved well, fortunately Luke James’ follow up was put over when he should have scored.

Fellow recent arrival like James, Marcus Maddison (30), showed him how to do it on the half hour mark showed his quick thinking striking instincts as he lofted the ball over Neal following a quickly taken throw in to sent the hosts into the break one-nil up.

Vale improved in the second half but we couldn’t create the chances required to get back into the game and Kyle Vassell (72) came off the bench to head home Jon Taylor’s freekick before Jack Payne (79) secured the win with a little over 10-minutes to play.

Jordan Slew (83) scored a good goal to give us some cheer before fulltime but it wasn’t enough to prevent a three-one defeat.
