Port Vale’s League 1 season continued with a draw against Gillingham at Vale Park on Saturday.

Page saw his side battle back from a goal down to maintain an unbeaten start to the season in this one-one draw.

When summer signing Alnwick, in on a short-term deal, picked up a Duffy back pass Gillingham had an indirect freekick that Dack (17) made no mistake with when the ball was laid off to him by Norris.

Vale were level by half time though when Dodds (35) fired past Gillingham ‘keeper Nelson from the edge of the area and would have won it had Crystal Palace loanee Inniss not been denied by the crossbar in the second half.

The other results this weekend were as follows:-

Saturday 15th August
Barnsley 1-0 Burton Alb
Blackpool 0-2 Rochdale
Bradford 1-1 Shrewsbury
Bury 2-2 Swindon
Millwall 0-4 Coventry
Oldham 1-0 Fleetwood
Peterboro 2-1 Colchester
Port Vale 1-1 Gillingham
Scunthorpe 2-0 Crewe
Sheff Utd 2-0 Chesterfld
Southend 0-2 Walsall

Sunday 16th August
Wigan 0-0 Doncaster

Looking at these results the stand out one was definitely the Coventry win at Millwall, with Blackpool’s misery continuing with Rochdale beating them at Bloomfield Road.

Coventry, who have started the season well, look to have a real goalscorer on their hands with Newcastle teenage loanee striker Armstrong taking his tally up to four-goals for the club in the opening week included two at the Den on Saturday in this four-nil win for the Sky Blues.

All of that after Millwall missed an early penalty chance to take the lead!

Blackpool, even at this stage, look likely to be a stone that continues to sink following Premier League relegation a few years back and Championship relegation last season, just five-years ago they topped the Premier League however it’s looking ominous that a place in League 2 next season already awaits them….

Port Vale are back in action this midweek, as an unbeaten start to the campaign is one the Valiants look to retain with an away game against Swindon at the County Ground on Tuesday.
