Without a manager but, as so often happens, we ended our run of defeats with a win!

Port Vale and Micky Adams parted company this week; a run of six successive defeats saw him decide to call time on his second spell with us leaving Robert Page to take caretaker charge.

What a response he, and we, got when a late goal secured us a 2-1 win at Vale Park against Barnsley.

We started brightly with Barnsley ‘keeper Ross Turnbull forced into several saves before we finally broke through with Michael O’Connor’s (24) superb freekick, which was enough to take us into the break ahead.

Having been fouled, just ahead of the hour, Conor Hourihane (59) stepped up himself to convert from the penalty spot to level it up for Barnsley.

Jordan Slew, one of four players given a recall for this game, won what looked a soft penalty but once again he missed. This time he wasn’t able to follow-up his missed effort to score the rebound as he fired high and wide!

That looked like it would see us end with a point but Mark Marshall’s (89) wonderful last minute run and finish earned us an important two-won win and a win at Vale Park for the first time since April.
