Port Vale paid the price for not taking chances and for ending the game with 10-men when we were beaten at Preston North End on Saturday.

We knew we had a tough ask ahead of the game as the hosts hadn’t been beaten at Deepdale since last December, with this extended after a 2-0 win.

A bright start saw us have more of the ball with and Vale also looked the more threatening but chances weren’t taken. Michael O’Connor and Mark Marshall both went close, but neither scored.

Preston started to threaten and broke through when Paul Gallagher (42) opened the scoring just before the break.

Stephane Zubar saw red with a little over 10-minutes to play when he was sent off for striking Garner, who had previously been booked for an off-the-ball incident, to make the task harder.

Almost immediately following this red card Alan Browne (81) fired past Chris Neal, with the ‘keeper beaten by a wicked deflection that wrong footed him, to ensure it wasn’t going to be our day.
