Ready When It Matters

Port Vale might have lost to Southport on Saturday, meaning we’ll not go into the league 1 season in form (results wise) but Mark Marshall isn’t too concerned.

Walsall are first up and Marshall feels that when it really matters and ‘the serious business starts’ Vale will deliver.

He told the official website: ‘On Saturday the serious business starts, and I hope we get the three points to get the season off in a good way.

‘I think that when it comes to league games we will do very well because the lads have shown what they can do and we have enough quality to compete in this league.’

The Southport defeat was a setback, he knows this, but also knows it can’t be ‘dwelt on’

A place in the starting XI is very much the wingers aim, although he isn’t taking anything for granted, adding: ‘I’m looking forward to the Walsall match, I just want to keep working hard and see if I can hold down a place in the starting line-up.

‘I always say nothing is guaranteed, I`ve been in many positions before where I could see what I wanted right in front of me and it`s been taken away.

‘So no matter how good or how bad things may seem, you’ve just got to work hard and see where it takes you.’

Having worked hard during pre-season, and done what has been asked of him, he does feel and hopes that he has done enough to make this the case and we’ll know soon enough.
