Savage Blow For Vale

Robbie Savage has ‘politely` declined the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join Vale on a short-term loan deal after holding a meeting with Chairman Bill Bratt last Friday according to The Sentinel.

The 33-year-old midfielder is currently unable to get a game at Derby and has been told by Paul Jewell that he can go out on loan providing the right offer comes along. Clearly we do not constitute the ‘right offer`.

Brighton are pursuing the past-his-sell-by-date long haired hoofer, as are his former club Crewe Alex.

Meanwhile Managerial candidate Dean Glover has been polishing up on his ‘Manager speak` over the weekend. Interviewed by The Sentinel after the defeat at Gillingham Glover had this to say about Vale`s prospects for the rest of the season:-

“Its early doors, but I think everyone is expecting us in the Play-off`s, and that is our aim obviously. But realistically with the squad we have got you are looking at the top half, and that is what we are striving to do. If we can get in there who knows what can happen?”

Strangely enough most of us aren`t considering us as play-off candidates right at the moment, surviving in this league is as much as we dare to dream. Nice little dig at the squad assembled by Lee Sinnott though, well done Dean…

How could we afford to pay Savage for a months graft? He’s on over 20 grand a week? presumably we’d have been expecting Derby to pay that – perhaps thats why the offer was ‘declined’!
