The league cup dreams of Vale are over for another season.

Port Vale gave championship outfit Cardiff City a real run for their money but in the end it was the higher league side that prevailed, winning 3-2 at Vale Park on Tuesday night.

Micky Adams hadn’t made many changes to his side so far this season but he kept just four players from the two-nil defeat to Notts County on Saturday, Cardiff on the other hand changed their entire XI!

The changes didn’t make to much difference to us as we started well but Cardiff ‘keeper Simon Moore produced a brilliant save to prevent Louis Dodds breaking through to give us the lead, which then came for Cardiff with Joe Ralls (26) firing home from distance past Chris Neal.

If that goal was good then Michael O’Connor’s (34) was even better to level things up less than 10-minutes later. A freekick was touched into his path and he thumped home to see us level at one-one at the break.

A second half double from debutant Federico Macheda (60 & 79) put the Welsh side in control though with Michael Brown’s (90) late goal unable to save us as Cardiff saw out injury-time to knock us out three-two.
