Whitaker wants a better offer

Out-of-contract midfielder Danny Whitaker is still hoping for a better offer after declining the initial contract deal made last month.

Whitaker has spoken to The Sentinel, insisting that he would still like play for Vale, and that his demands could easily be met.

Danny also made the rather ill-advised decision to admit that as yet no other club’s had made any kind of approach! Clearly Danny is not regarded as a much sought after commodity, and therefore he’s not really in the driving seat where negotiations are concerned.

So, what exactly does Whitaker bring to the table? Why should Vale ‘up’ their initial offer? Well, he can certainly score goals, and there’s no doubt that on his day he can be a really creative player. Unfortunately though we just do not see enough of those qualities. How often can anyone say that they have seen Danny take a game by the scruff of the neck during his two seasons at Vale Park?

In my opinion he should take what’s already been offered. If not Vale must tell him to shove it. He is just not good enough to be holding out for a better offer.

I hope he stays to be honest, he’ll be an asset in League 2 – as long as we have others who are prepared to do the spade work.
