On loan striker Lewis Haldane made his debut on Saturday coming on as a second half sub, but what are the views from parent club Bristol Rovers and Oxford Utd – where he spent last season on loan?

Lenny 1883, Editor of Vital Bristol Rovers has this to say about Haldane:

‘Lewis is very quick and has bags of skill but has no end product, can’t shoot or cross. If he could he would not be playing League one/two football. He had a good season for us when we came up from League Two but looks out of his depth in League One. Started as a striker but moved to the wing as he never scored!!

Good luck with him, hope it works out for both club and player.

PS – his nickname is ‘Tango’, you will see why when you see him!’

Meanwhile Tel Boy, Editor of Vital Oxford Utd has these thoughts:

‘Lewis can play left right wing or through the centre. He is right footed so is best suited out on the right. We played him for the majority of the time on the wing. He is fast, but has little skill to get past people. He will fall over given the slightest nudge rather than stay on his feet. But he does win a fair few free kicks.

Not the best in front of goal but given space and time can score. His nick-name was ‘suntan’, since he likes to think he is the pretty boy.

Maybe at league level he will get found out a bit to often to be effective since pace is his only reliable asset.’

So, both have the same thoughts on Haldane, and there are two common dominators that all of us present at Vale Park on Saturday would agree with – he has undoubted pace, and an addiction to sunbeds (are they still called that? My lady goes in one of those stand up things, what are they called?)

Personally I was impressed with what we saw of him against Grimsby. His looked like a man possessed when he began that surging run from the half-way line that eventually led to our penalty, leaving two Grimsy defenders in his wake. He obviously realises that at the age of 24 it’s now or never if he wants to prove himself as a league player.

Many thanks to Lenny Gas and Tel boy, what do you think of their views…
