Leyton Orient Preview

For how much longer is this nightmare going to continue?

Eleven games played and just two wins to our name, with seven defeats. No sign of a new Manager either. Caretaker Boss Dean Glover looks like he’ll remain ‘Caretaker Boss’ until we string two victories together, at which point he’ll be given the job permanently.

Saturday’s hosts Leyton Orient have made a great start to the season and currently sit in third place, despite been many ‘pundits’ favourites for relegation.

Its just all too depressing.

Dean Glover…

Midfielder Craig Rocastle has been bigging up Dean Glover this week.

Speaking to The Sentinel Rocastle reckons That Glover has brought about an improvement in Vale’s performances.

‘There is a more positive way of thinking and that is actually trying to go out and win games…’

Its enough to make you weep. ‘… trying to go out and win games…’ Thats a novel idea. Why has no-one thought of that before?

Glover himself had this to say to The Sentinel:

‘Players are being punished for individual errors, so we have to track runners and defend well at set-pieces…if we do that we have a good chance of being positive that we can score goals because we are creating chances.’

What I think Dean is getting at here is that if we stop conceding goals and start scoring goals we may well win some games.

Genius.

Leyton Orient Team News:

Matt Diner – Editor of Vital Leyton Orient – is more than happy with the way The O’s have started the campaign.

‘We’ve made a good start to the season mainly down to Martin Ling. The team spirit he has installed is amazing. Away from home we have found ourselves losing at Bristol Rovers and Southend and come back to win those games.

He has brought quality in. Centre-half Tamika Mkandawire is the best defender I’ve seen at the club, he is immense. If we got £1m for Zakuni we think we could get at least double for Tam. Adam Boyd has obviously been putting the ball in the net as well.

Players from last season have also stepped up. Adam Chambers will cover every blade of grass and young Jason Demetriou has really stepped up for the club.

I thought you’d do well this season until you signed Tudor! We hope Rodgers has a ‘mare as he chose you over us!’

Player to watch: Adam Boyd…

The Orient striker has been amongst the goals and will no doubt be relishing taking on our shoddy back four.

Port Vale Team News:

Left-back Jason Talbot is available after yet another suspension, and will probably start at the ground where surprisingly enough he was sent off last season. Adam Eckersley – onloan from Man U as left-back cover was of course sent off last Saturday on his debut.

Ex-Leyton Orient players Justin Miller and Shane Tudor are both likely to feature – Miller from the start and Tudor we’ll probably see in the second half when we’re 2-0 down.

Elsewhere expect to see the hapless Paul Harsley and Danny Whitaker both feature in midfield, with either one or both of the ex-Macclesfield deadly duo playing out of position. On loan Will Atkinson is likely to again start on the bench.

Vital Vale line-up:- Anyon, Miller, Westwood, Pilkington, Talbot, Harsley, Rocastle, Whitaker, Edwards, Rodgers, McGoldrick.

Player to watch: Luke Rodgers…

Predictably I’m going for Luke as our main threat tomorrow, simply because he’s really the only threat we’ve possessed this season. Rodgers will be given half-hearted support up front by David McGoldrick for 70 minutes before Marc Richards comes on and does nothing for the remaining 20 minutes.

Last Season…

Vale went down 2-1 at Brisbane Road last season after taking the lead through Ross Gardner. Where is he now? Is he still playing football? We threw it away in the second half. Talbot got a red after two bookables on Shane Tudor. The game ended in bizarre fashion with Leon Constantine coming into the away section to speak to family and ending up having some handbags with a Vale Fan.

Match Prediction:

Leyton Orient 2-1 Port Vale Repeat of last season’s scoreline, and I really can’t see us getting any more out of this game.

Next Fixture…

Saturday 27th Oct Swindon Town (h) 3pm
