The FA Cup is over for Port Vale after a first round exit at Vale Park in a seven-goal thriller against league 1 rivals Milton Keynes Dons.

A game that swung one way and then the other was eventually won 4-3 by Karl Robinson’s side.

MK Dons were almost ahead early on but we had the bar to thank for keeping out a Ben Reeves effort, before taking the lead ourselves!

Ben Williamson (11) had been credited with the goal that put us ahead but it was more of an own goal from Jordan Spence after Williamson’s miss hit from an Adam Yates’ cross went into the back of MK Dons’ ‘keeper David Martin’s net.

MK Dons continued to apply more of the pressure and finally drew level when Benik Afobe (31) raced onto Mark Randall’s pass to give Chris Neal no chance.

From a goal down MK Dons went two-one up shortly before half time when Carl Baker (40) unleashed an effort from 25-yards past Neal.

Yates was again the provider as we made sure we went into the interval level when Danny N’Guessan (44) converted his cross to make it all square at half time.

Ahead of the hour mark MK Dons had another chance to regain the advantage when Williamson brought down Samir Carruthers in the box. Afobe (59) kept his cool to send Neal the wrong and make it three-two.

With a little under 10-minutes to play Afobe was again involved, this time he was the provider as his fine run and cross set up Danny Green (81) who was left with a tap in to book MK Dons’ place in round two.

Mark Marshall was denied by the post but N’Guessan (85) was on hand to turn home the rebound to restore hope of a dramatic comeback but it wasn’t to be with us losing out four-three.
